Chair: George Savvides
Arrow Leadership Australia Board
Tuesday, 14 June 2011
Dear supporters and friends of Arrow,
I am delighted to write to you in my first communication as the Chair of the Arrow Board following my appointment in
February this year. Whilst new to Arrow in this role, like many of you, my relationship with Arrow goes back over 10 years
being involved with many of the programs as a guest speaker. Since retiring from the World Vision Board I have had several
approaches to join mission organisations, but it was only Arrow that produced a strong sense of calling and resonance for
the things God has put on my heart, which is to help develop leaders who have a heart for God and deep sense of calling to
make a difference in our nation and community.
Specifically I refer to “leadership, more than theological qualification as important as that is, for we need to develop the qualities of Christ centred leadership that will give life and direction to our church communities and para-church organisations.
The Arrow Board has already met several times this year, and participated in a strategic planning workshop to clarify and confirm our mission and primary objectives.
In summary, we remain absolutely committed to identifying our emerging leaders within the Church and selecting the most eligible to participate in the Arrow leadership program. The program focuses on developing transformational leaders, who are capable of taking the given context and engage their church community or mission to bring renewal and transformation, and so when complete the community is stronger and more connected to the community it desires to reach and serve.
The Board also resolved to pursue two new initiatives over the next 12 months, firstly to develop an Arrow Alumni refresher program to continue our investment in the over 200 Arrow graduates serving in the church across Australia. We know that the role of a leader can be often lonely and challenging, so with stimulating new material, mentoring and peer reflection designed to re-energize our passion for leadership and God’s calling in our work we hope to equip our Alumni with renewed passion for leadership.
The second new initiative is to leverage the Alumni program and develop a Transformational Leadership program for marketplace professionals, Christian men and women who have taken up their vocation in business, health, law, education etc., who still remain committed to their walk of faith, but hunger to make a more confident faith and work connection in their vocation. We know many church pastors who would love to encourage some of their professional men and women in their congregations to participate in an Arrow Exec program.
As you can see, apart from the recently expanded intake of Arrow participants, these two new initiatives are going to keep us very busy over the next few years. We have resolved to retain our current supporter funding toward our Arrow ministry leadership program as it remains our top priority. So we would not only ask that you consider continuing your support but if the Alumni program and the Arrow Exec program resonates deeply for you, please consider making a contribution to resourcing these new initiatives by responding through the reply card enclosed. We know that transformational leaders change the world, men and women whose faith and work are centred on serving where God has called them. Will you join us in supporting this wonderful ministry?
